Abdominal exercises and fat loss.

What kind of abdominal workouts are best for burning fat in the midsection? What is THE BEST exercise and how many reps do I need to do?


The most effective way to decrease stomach/waist size is through eating progressively less calories over time.


Abdominal workouts are generally touted as the best way to do it. That's because doing a hundred crunches daily is easier than actually controlling what goes into your mouth. However, easier doesn't always get the job done.


Waist size and abdominal muscle structure can be genetic. some people naturally have a very small mid section while others are much wider. I encountered this frequently during my competitive days.



So what can you do today to reduce your waist volume today?

The first and most important place to start is your diet. Most of the mass in the midsection (apart from important hardware of course) is mainly visceral fat and water.


By reducing total caloric intake, typically by eating less carbohydrates and fats, you'll begin to notice a gradual decrease in volume.


Secondly, abdominal exercises! As I stated earlier, training is a less daunting task than dieting for most people and that's because more people like to eat than train.


Basic abdominal exercise are very effective at strengthening and "tightening" the midsection. They WILL NOT help you burn fat, not directly anyway. They will do for your mid section what bicep curls will do for your biceps which is build muscle and tighten up.


Diet and exercise

Every fat loss formula needs to have a combination of good eating habits and weight lifting. This is important if you actually want to look good after having lost some weight. Resistance training is and should be a part of every fat loss regime for this reason.


In conclusion, abdominal workouts will not burn fat in the midsection. That's the work of a good eating plan. This doesn't mean that you shouldn't be doing abdominal exercises, you should, they work! It simply means that their action should be understood fully in order to be applied properly.
